The Song Of 02/05/2017: Nao – In the Morning

Soulful electronic + R&B today from British singer-songwriter and producer Nao, Neo Jessica Joshua. ‘In the Morning’ is the song from ‘For All We Know’ album. The song was released in January 2015, but it somehow went unnoticed for me.

After my night-workaholic sessions, this nearly-hysterical sound makes me return to reality. That’s what it is. And it doesn’t really matter that my mornings’ horrors are caused by not enough sleep because of too many things to do. It doesn’t really matter the song about unsuccessful love, which stands on the very edge of relationships. The mood is the thing that connects everything.

He can’t bare to leave me in the morning
I’m too blind to see him in the morning..

I gotta let him go, no no no…

Nao – In the Morning

He can’t bare to leave me in the morning
I’m too blind to see him in the morning
Buried all my feelings, I’m withholding
It’s not fair to let him fall
I tried to leave him signs, give him warning
Are they hard to recognise?
You’re still falling away cause I can’t tell him
I don’t love him anymore

[Chorus 1]
I gotta let him go
Gotta let him go
Gotta let him go
Gotta let him go
Gotta let him go

[Verse 2]
He’s falling even deeper, didn’t see it coming
His heart belongs to me but I’m still running
Away cause I can’t tell him
I don’t love him anymore
I can’t be who he wants me to be in the morning
I can’t see who he wants me to see in the morning
But I can’t wait to tell him
I don’t love him anymore

[Chorus 2]
I gotta let him go
Gotta let him go
Gotta let him go
Gotta let him go, no
Gotta let him

[Bridge]
I need him in the evening
And I need him more at night
But when I wake to see him
He’s not even on my mind
No, no, no, no

[Chorus 3]
I gotta let him go, no no no
I gotta let him go, no no no no
I gotta let him go, no no no no
Gotta let him go, go
Yeah
