The Song Of 12/27/2016: Seal – Wishing On A Star

Classics again.
A record with a new soul. Soul 2 – Seal’s cover.

‘Wishing On A Star’ is a song of american group Rose Royce. It was released in 1978. Somehow it wasn’t that successful in America. But good news, it was a big chart hit in the UK. Maybe that’s why English singer and songwriter Seal decided to cover it. England knows what a song is.

Seal’s version of ‘Wishing On A Star’ was released in 2011. It was the first single from his album ‘Soul 2’. I love the name of the album. He actually presented the second soul to  classic soul songs.

He can do anything with his type of voice. It could be warm. Could be strong. Could be cold. Could be soft…
And it fits this particular song perfectly. Listen to the very first second. Just the voice. Beautiful. Touching.. Then the piano. And then it all starts.

I’m wishing on a star
To follow where you are
I’m wishing on a dream
To follow what it means

The song is about tough relationship when the person wants to return his/her ex-love and start it all again…

Wishing on a star
To follow where you are

This is the type of song you understand only from hearing it N’th time. You think it’s good, but nothing more. And then you realise you love it.. when accidentally hear it in cafe… when it’s playing in a background. ‘What a beautiful song, wow!’ – the thoughts’re running…
